Inspiration

In the contemporary era, many social issues originate from the ugly side of human nature, including corruption, scams, over-packaging, and more. The ugliness of humans makes it challenging to distinguish what is real or unreal, and thoughts and behaviors shape people's incomplete inner selves. For instance, since social media became prevalent, many women have disguised their ugliness by putting on makeup or undergoing cosmetic surgery to cheat money or attract online fans. Additionally, business owners infringe on employees' rights and take advantage of them to further their own interests.
This fashion design project aims to illustrate an individual with a great deal of negative thinking and emotion in their mind. The accumulation of negative thoughts makes the person ugly, and their flawless appearance under a perfect disguise will eventually be replaced by diseased skin that spreads all over the body, infecting other people.

Research

An image of diseased skin from the book 'Clinical Dermatology,' which I found in a second-hand bookstore, has inspired me to create my work. I have used various materials such as cotton, fur, lycra, nylon, elastomeric, or spandex in this design project. In fact, I have applied matte plastic to wrap the diseased skin, creating an enormous imaginary sense, similar to a wrapped gift.

Development

Using the rotten skin as a base symbolizes the negative power bursting from within and manifesting on the outer layer of the skin - the appearance. The matte plastic serves as an armor that wraps around the entire body, representing a shield to cover up the ugliness.
